Juliette Dumas’ art is a powerful ode to Earth, to its mysteries, and to its fragility. Born in Paris in 1987, she grew up with a profound awareness of the natural forces that shape our planet. After graduating from Villa Arson in Nice and the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she quickly directed her work towards exploring the relationship between humanity and nature. Her artistic approach is a meditation on the current state of the world, a response to the environmental crisis through works that embody hope and resilience.
Dumas is particularly known for her monumental paintings of whale flukes, depicting scars left by fishing nets and human-induced dangers. For her, these "fingerprints" of whales tell the story of each individual, their strength, their trials, and their crucial role in our ecosystem. Through her use of clay and natural pigments, she shapes these works as metaphors for our own connection to the Earth, while paying homage to the majestic creatures that guard it.
Inspired by the "Rio Negro Manifesto," a pivotal text that advocates for art in service of nature, Juliette Dumas transcends pure aesthetics to invite us into a deep reflection on the future of our planet. Drawing from ancient traditions and finding beauty in pain, she paints a universe where nature and humanity can still coexist in harmony. Her works, exhibited in New York, Paris, and beyond, reveal an artist deeply committed to translating ecological urgency into hope and love.
